We congratulate Phorms Campus Berlin Süd on being named a "Digital School."

The award was accepted today, Friday, by Principal Valerie Hardt, Alistair Grant from the Computer Science Department, and ICT Coordinator Mandy Norgall.

The certification, awarded by the national initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!”, confirms that the campus has consistently worked to establish digital education as an integral part of its school profile.

Valerie Hardt describes it this way:

“It shows that we’ve really achieved something in the digital realm—not just together with the teachers, but also with the students who are interested in pursuing training in STEM, taking on projects, or developing products that have never existed before.”

Media Education Starting in 1st Grade

As Mandy Norgall reports, media literacy begins early at the campus: “Here, media education starts in first Year. In the upper Years, the complexity increases accordingly. In Secondary School, for example, we have our own Maker Space and were recently recognized as a school specializing in media education.”

In the upper Years, the concept of “digital citizenship” takes center stage. In the subjects of Media Communications and Digital Education, for example, students explore social media algorithms or how to distinguish fake news from reliable news.

AI as a Topic for the Future

Another key focus of this year’s awards ceremony was the topic of artificial intelligence.

Valerie Hardt comments: “It’s important to us to work with AI and highlight both its opportunities and risks, because it’s the future. We need to find ways to address it in an educationally sound manner.”

Awards as a Mission

With the titles “STEM-Friendly School” and “Digital School,” Phorms Campus Berlin Süd has reached two important milestones. They demonstrate that the school has successfully combined technology, pedagogy, and media education to develop a coherent, future-oriented concept for the school community.
