STEM on the Berlin South Campus: Now Even in Preschool!

We congratulate the “PhorMinis” daycare center in Berlin South on its official certification as a “House Where Children Explore.” The award was presented last Friday during a festive ceremony attended by the children, parents, and educators on the campus grounds.

Sandra Ohlig and Christoph Lammert from the Kinder forschen Foundation officially presented daycare director Timo Bruckmann with the certification, along with a welcome “researcher’s box” full of exciting materials for experimenting.

Since March of last year, the entire daycare team has undergone intensive training to earn the certification. The result? A daily routine at the kindergarten where exploration and discovery are second nature, and where children are introduced to STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in a playful way from a very young age.

The fact that the high school was designated a “STEM-friendly school” just a few months ago shows that at the Berlin South Campus, science education is promoted across all age groups—from children’s initial wonder at the world to more complex research projects at school.

At the certification ceremony, parents, children, and educators were able to experience exactly that: an exhibition showcased the children’s previous experiments and research projects, and interactive hands-on stations invited visitors to try things out for themselves.

Daycare center director Timo Bruckmann sums it up:
“The certification as a ‘House Where Children Explore’ is not only a milestone for us, but also a valuable gift to our children. Together, we are creating an inspiring learning environment where they can explore STEM and ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) topics through play and develop their talents."
