'Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes' by Eleanor Coerr is a novel based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a young Japanese girl who is forced to overcome the obstacles of being diagnosed with a post World War II disease. Recalling a Japanese legend, Sadako sets to work folding one thousand paper cranes in good faith that that the gods will grant her wish of good health. Sadly, Sadako only managed to fold 644 cranes. In her memory, the Year 4 students endeavoured to complete the final 356.
