Abitur

The Abitur qualifies also as the right to study at any Germany university or other institution of higher learning in a given discipline. For this reason, the secondary schools offer a highly diverse spectrum of content. The goal is to provide the broadest possible general education.

At Phorms schools, students sit for the Abitur after Year 12. The Abitur is set according to the provisions of the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK, Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs). It is also divided into two parts, the qualification phases (Q11 and Q12) and the actual Abitur exam. Here, the skills acquired in the senior class are tested in four or five selected subjects. The exam marks are counted in the average mark for the university entrance certificate.

Abitur exams have both written and oral components. The process in Germany differs from state to state. Which subjects and how many subjects the pupil takes for the oral exam also differs, although at least one oral exam is mandatory.
