Chemistry 12 LK has been designing a rocket for the last 3 weeks and today was the first trial run for the prototypes. 2 types of fuel were used, one with a gaseous and one solid. The project includes aerodynamics and chemistry. The students carefully calculated and measured the quantities so that optimal energy release would be achieved. Ignition was outside and behind a safety glass, students wore goggles and ear protection in order to prevent physical damage. Over the next few weeks, the students will adjust their fuel type/amount with various propellants and also improve their design of the rocket.
