Model United Nations Workshop

Datum:
Campus München

On the 12th of May, 2017, about a dozen students of the 9th grade visited a Model United Nations workshop at the European School of Munich (ESM).

After a short introduction to the MUN concept - the basic composition of written resolutions and the parliamentary procedures of a MUN conference - we gathered into groups to research and discuss current global issues such as the wealth gap or refugees, followed by writing our own propositions referring to these matters.  To conclude the workshop, a model conference was held inside these groups to present and discuss our written propositions.

We all found that the workshop was a great opportunity to gain insight into how UN proceedings are conducted, as well as a chance to step out of our comfort zone by speaking in front of student participants from other schools. Many of us are now looking forward to participating at further conferences, such as the New York conference, that our year 10 and 11 students visited this year. Many thanks to the students of the ESM who organized this event and made this experience possible. –Adeline von Canstein, Y9
