The Bee Garden in Oberursel is a fantastic location for children to learn and explore the world of bees. They provide an excellent tour of the garden and describe the process through which queen bees are born, what the drone bees are responsible for, and the life of the worker bee. The children were able to see inside a real hive, and though we were so near to thousands of bees it was completely safe. We learned about how important the sense of smell is to bees in locating their hive, and how they respond to the smell of smoke. The highlight of the visit was tasting fresh honey from the honeycomb pulled out of a hive! The children left with beeswax to keep as a momento of a wonderful visit.
